Karachi, Pakistan, Sept. 1 (Xinhua/Jiang Jiang, Tang Binhui) -The handover ceremony of the financial donation by Chinese enterprises for flood relief in Balochistan, a province in the south of Pakistan was held on Sept. 1 in Karachi, a southern city of the country.
Li Bijian, Consul General of China in Karachi, said at the handover ceremony that ever since Pakistan was hit by the floods, the Chinese government and Chinese-funded enterprises in Pakistan have done their best at the earliest possible time to support Pakistan in tackling the devastating disasters, which has reflected the deep friendship between the two countries. He also expressed his hope that the Pakistani people would overcome the disaster at an early date and return to normal life.
The Director-General of Balochistan’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority, in his speech, expressed heartfelt thanks to the Chinese government and people for their tremendous support to Pakistan in fighting flood calamity. He told Xinhua that the relief assistance of this time is in addition to the previous anti-pandemic goods provided by China for Balochistan, and is a proof of the two sides’ relationship of sharing weal and woe.
This donation has been responded by a number of Chinese companies in Balochistan, and the funds have been transferred to the Pakistani side. He Xuping, head of the Saindak copper mine project of China Metallurgical Group, who participated in the donation, said in an interview with Xinhua that Chinese companies in Pakistan will never stand by when Pakistan encounters major difficulties, and that in the face of this catastrophic flood, Chinese companies in Pakistan relate deeply to their Pakistani brothers and would make efforts in helping them rebuild the homeland.
Since mid-June, various disasters caused by heavy rainfall have killed 1,191 people across the country, with 253 dead and 164 injured in the Balochistan Province, according to the latest figures released by the Pakistani National Disaster Management Authority on Aug. 31.
