Fuzhou News April 17 (Text/photo by Reporter from Fuzhou Evening News: Zheng Ruiyang, Correspondent: Yang Yuanjin ) On April 17, the reporter was informed that Fuzhou’s largest national central fishing port in Tailu will be completed in August. In the future, the Tailu Central Fishing Port, together with the Huangqi Central Fishing Port which has been completed and Xiaocheng Central Fishing Port to be built, will jointly bolster the building of Fuzhou’s fishing port economic zone.
Tailu Town has long been known as “the Ends of the Earth in Fuzhou”
Situated in the easternmost part of Huangqi Peninsula, surrounded by sea on three sides, Tailu Town is a major waterway from Fujian Province to Zhejiang Province, known as “the Ends of the Earth in Fuzhou”. Tailu Town is an important fishing town with integrated industries of marine fishing, aquaculture, marine trade and transport, as well as aquatic products freezing and processing. For many years, most of the fishing boats in the town have to head for other places to take shelter from the wind due to the lack of harbors, which not only has increased the round-trip cost and failed to guarantee the safety and lives of fishermen, but also has often delayed the right time for going fishing at sea.
With efforts from multiple sides, the construction of Tailu Central Fishing Port kicked off on November 28, 2017. It is learned that with an area of around 578 thousand square meters and a gross investment up to 360 million yuan, the Tailu Central Fishing Port can accommodate over a thousand ships of all kinds and sizes docked at it.
At the construction site, the reporter saw cranes, excavators and carrier vehicles running back and forth and workers busy with the prefabrication and installment of the caissons, the construction of breakwaters and wave walls, the consolidation of side slopes and other ongoing work.
The Tailu Central Fishing Port to be completed
As a relevant person in charge introduced, over 85% of the whole project has been completed, making the fishing port capable of defending against typhoons. Next, work will be done to build supporting facilities of water and electricity, communication, roads and so on. The fishing port is scheduled to complete its main architectures at the end of June and execute the completion and acceptance in August.
According to the introduction of Lin Xinde, Secretary of the CPC Tailu Township Committee, the Tailu Central Fishing Port is currently Fuzhou’s largest national central fishing port and it’s one of Lianjiang’s important projects to build the Bastion for the “Maritime Fuzhou”. After completion, the fishing port can not only meet the needs of fishing boats in Tailu Town and surrounding towns for the berths for shelter, trade in fishery products, fishing boat repairs and fishing supplies, but also will drive the economic development of Huangqi Peninsula.
In the meantime, the Huangqi National Central Fishing Port that has been completed and put into operation locates in Huangqi Town, a place renowned as “Fuzhou’s Pearl at Sea”. The town is planning to build a commerce-trade-tourism zone, a seaside holiday resort and Yancongding Ecological Park, walkways along the central fishing port as well as family-run lodgings with the style of fishing villages. Moreover, the town plans to start the construction of Changchi First-Class Fishing Port Project in the second half of the year. “At that time, Huangqi Town will be the only town in China to both have a national central fishing port and a first-class fishing port.” Huang Ruiming, the Secretary of the CPC Huangqi Township Committee, told the reporter.
Besides, Fuzhou’s third national central fishing port -- Xiaocheng Central Fishing Port lies in Xiaocheng Town with a reputation of “the Maldives in Fuzhou”. The fishing port plans to build the effective sheltered waters covering an area of 551 thousand square meters and at present its preliminary work is undergoing.
In the future, relying on Huangqi, Tailu, and Xiaocheng Central Fishing Port, Fuzhou will promote the common development of the three ports to build a fishing port economic zone with distinctive industries of aquatic products intensive processing, leisure fishery, trade with Taiwan, as well as tourism and sighting-seeing.
