Local Councils Association of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan (LCA-KP)

Local Councils Association of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan (LCA-KP) was established in 2008 under, “The Societies Registration Act, 1860” as an independent and private association of the elected local government representatives. The Association, being a representative body of more than 42,000 elected councilors, aims to increase the effective participation of the councilors and citizens in local government planning, development and decision-making within the framework of participatory democracy and associative spirit. Since its inception, the LCA-KPis striving to strengthen the local governance structure in the province as enumerated under Article 140-A of the Constitution of Pakistan.

The following are some of its objectives:

- Strengthen the voices and increase the effective participation of councillors and citizens in local government planning, development and decision-making within the framework of participatory democracy and an associative spirit.

- Enhance the capacity and functioning of local governments, and facilitate cooperation among all tiers for effective service delivery and developments by all levels of governments.

- Encourage and facilitate joint actions to solve common issues and to promote the development of communities and the people.

- Establish and maintain good relations and on-going liaison with provincial and federal governments in the shared interests of all levels of government and the citizens of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
