The capital of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou is a key city located on China’s southeast coast. By 2019, Hangzhou covered a total area of 16,853 square kilometers and had a resident population of 10.36 million, with its urbanization rate reaching 78.5%. Situated in the southern wing of China's Yangtze River Delta, Hangzhou is also an important central city in the Yangtze River Delta and a transportation hub in southeastern China. As one of the ancient capitals of China, Hangzhou boasts two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: West Lake and the Grand Canal. The city is home to 53 museums, including the China National Silk Museum, the China National Tea Museum, the Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine, etc. Also, thirty-eight structures in the city – such as Lingyin Temple – have been designated nationally protected sites of historical and cultural significance. Forests cover 65% of the city, making it inscribed on the United Nations Habitat Scroll of Honor and declared an International Garden City. Hangzhou hosts the headquarters of world-famous companies such as Alibaba, Wanxiang, Wahaha, and Hikvision. In surveys of Chinese cities, the World Bank has consistently recognized Hangzhou as a “golden city” for its overall investment climate.
