Foreign Affairs Office of Fuzhou attends International Seminar on Multilateral City Diplomacy

On March 29, 2023, International Seminar on Multilateral City Diplomacy was successfully held in Guangzhou, China, participated in a hybrid format by nearly 100 representatives from the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries(CPAFFC), World Association of Major Metropolises(Metropolis), the Asian Mayors Forum(AMF), foreign affairs offices of 24 Chinese cities and other domestic and international institutions. Mr. Yan Dong, Vice President of CPAFFC, and Madam Zhang Yajie, Vice Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC) Guangzhou Committee and Co-President of United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific(UCLG ASPAC), attended the event and delivered speeches. Mr. Jordi Vaquer, Secretary General of Metropolis, made a keynote speech. Mr. Hamid Reza Gholamzadeh, Co-President of Metropolis, Vice Mayor of Tehran, Iran, and Secretary General of AMF, made a video speech. Mr. Nicholas You, an international consultant of Guangzhou Award, introduced the 6th Guangzhou Award online. Heads and representatives from foreign affairs offices of Chinese cities Xi'an, Fuzhou, Hangzhou, and Qingdao made speeches and had exchanges on the innovative practice and experience of multilateral city diplomacy.

Mr. Wu Xiaojie, Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Fuzhou Municipal Peoples Government, introduced Fuzhous practice and experience of multilateral city diplomacy from three aspects: Fuzhous building of multilateral diplomacy platform, foreign affairs brand events, and external display portal. And he elaborated it through presenting Fuzhou as the permanent venue and secretariat of the 21st-Century Maritime Cooperation Committee and its activities on maritime cooperation,as well as Fuzhous people-to-people and cultural exchange activities, such as Fuzhou International Friendship Cities Cultural Festival and Silk Road International Youth Photography and Short Video Competition. He also introduced the major international events held by Fuzhou, including Digital China Summit and Maritime Silk Road Expo, as part of Fuzhous wider efforts to show the charm of the city and deepen the international cooperation and exchanges through the platforms of international organizations. He noted that Fuzhou will continue to expand foreign exchanges and cooperation in various fields, establish partnerships of maritime cooperation with 21st-Century Maritime Cooperation Committee members, other cities and regions, and provide more public products for global regional maritime governance.
