Sponsored by the CPPCC Fuzhou Municipal Committee and other institutions, the workshop invited overseas Chinese to participate directly in document collection and event preparation, which received warm support from many well-known experts and scholars from Malaysia and China. Through this international academic workshop, the CPPCC Fuzhou Municipal Committee has built a new platform of unity and friendship bonded by affairs of common concerns.
At the workshop, experts and scholars from Peking University, Xiamen University, Fujian Normal University, University of Malaya, and other universities gave in-depth keynote reports on several topics, including the historical and cultural exchanges between Fuzhou and Malaysia, and the Chinese language education and social organization development within Fuzhounese communities in Malaysia. In doing so, they offered suggestions for Fuzhou to promote the international brand of "Mindu Culture" and deepen the relationship between Fuzhou and Malaysia under the "Belt and Road" Initiative.
Tu Rong, Vice President of Fujian Normal University, said, “The world is now facing great changes unseen in a century. However, the more difficulties there are, the more determined we should be to carry out cultural exchanges and dialogues among civilizations, and to promote the exchanges and mutual learning of civilizations to go deeper and more practical. This workshop is a pragmatic initiative dedicated to eliminating barriers and misunderstandings and promoting exchanges and mutual learning."
In recent years, the CPPCC Fuzhou Municipal Committee has been continuously collecting historical materials from all over the world related to the study of the historical relationship between Fuzhou and Malaysia, including the valuable literature from the Harvard University Library. This effort has provided key reference for an in-depth understanding of the history of Fuzhou immigrants in Malaysia, and will play a positive role in the implementation of the "Belt and Road" Initiative.
It is learned that since 2019, the CPPCC Fuzhou Municipal Committee has launched a two-year project for collecting historical documentation on Fuzhou's interactions with countries along the Maritime Silk Road, with Malaysia as the pilot country. People from home and abroad have actively responded to the call and contributed a total of 173 relevant documents and materials. This workshop is an attempt to enrich the role of the Literature and History Museum of the CPPCC Fuzhou Municipal Committee, from collecting books, compiling cultural and historical materials, and displaying its collections to holding academic seminars and offering high-quality advice.
