Fuzhou Reelected as a Member of UCLG ASPAC Council and Executive Bureau

On February 25th (Beijing Time), United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) convened its 2021 Council Meeting online and offline. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Tri Rismaharini, President of UCLG ASPAC, and Dr. Bernadia, Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC. Delegates from Foreign Affairs Office of the Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government attended the meeting.

In the beginning, President Tri Rismaharini delivered an opening speech, and Secretary General Bernadia introduced UCLG ASPAC Manifesto 2021-2025 and UCLG ASPAC Work Plans 2021. And then the hosts of 2021 UCLG ASPAC Congress and 2022 UCLG ASPAC Council Meeting respectively reported their preparations. During the meeting, representatives elected members of Council and Executive Bureau, President and Co-Presidents of UCLG ASPAC for 2020-2022. Five members from China’s Mainland were elected by voting as members of Council and Executive Bureau for this term, namely, Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), Fuzhou City, Hangzhou City, Xi’an City and Changsha City. Fuzhou’s reelection as a member of Council and Executive Bureau of UCLG ASPAC demonstrated that UCLG ASPAC highly affirmed Fuzhou’s efforts in promoting exchanges and cooperation among cities, which was favorable for Fuzhou to maintain its voice in Asia-Pacific region, improved the visibility and influence of Fuzhou City in international community and among members of UCLG ASPAC, and was meaningful for Fuzhou to speed up building itself into a modern international city.

Mr. Song Jingwu, former Vice President of CPAFFC, gave his remarks as a member representative. He congratulated elected members and mentioned that UCLG ASPAC Committee on the Belt and Road Local Cooperation and 21st-Century Maritime Cooperation Committee have become important platforms for the Belt and Road cooperation in Asia-Pacific region, vigorously fostered economic development, maritime cooperation and friendly exchanges of all member cities and brought fruitful results for the building of Asia-Pacific region. At the end of the meeting, the new president Mr. Ashok Kumar Byanju Shrestha delivered a closing address and Ms. Tri Rismaharini gave an emotional outgoing speech, marking the successful conclusion of the meeting.
