Nepal Started Administering China-donated COVID-19 Vaccines

 Nepal on the morning of April 7 started administering China-donated COVID-19 vaccines. Neliya Shakya, a Nepalese female postgraduate student at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China, became the first citizen of Nepal to be inoculated with the Chinese vaccine.

 “The Chinese vaccine will definitely provide some relief amid a resurgence of novel coronavirus cases in the country. We are very thankful to our neighbour China”, Dr. Dipendra Raman Singh, Director General of Department of Health, said at the launching ceremony of Covid-19 vaccination campaign. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi said, “ China is willing to work together with Nepal to overcome the difficulties and achieve the ultimate victory in the fight against the epidemic.”

On March 29, a batch of Chinese COVID-19 vaccines developed by Sinopharm was delivered to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. “Frontline workers aged 18 to 59 years old, students studying in China but are currently stuck in Nepal due to pandemic and people involved in cross-border trade between Nepal and China will be inoculated first with the Chinese vaccine.” Said the The Nepali government.
