Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, is located in the south of China, downstream of the Pearl River and borders the South China Sea. Due to its ideal location, Guangzhou was one of the first coastal cities opening up to the world and the starting point of the "Maritime Silk Road" , and thus known as The Southern Gate of China to the world. As it is close to Hong Kong and Macau, Guangzhou becomes the center city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area and the Pan-Pearl River Delta Economic Zone. By the end of 2019, the city had have a resident population of approximately 15.3 million with its urbanization rate reaching 86.46%. GaWC (Globalization and World Cities Research Network), a global authority, rated Guangzhou as a global top city in which International Import and Export Fair are held every year,  attracting a large number of businessmen as well as investment from a large number of foreign enterprises and Fortune 500 companies. Guanzhou hosts more than 8,700 national high-tech enterprises, ranking the top three in the country in total. In 2017, Guangzhou was rated second in the Forbes “China’s Best Cities for Business List" and third in the “China's Top 100 Cities List”.
