Malacca City is the capital city of the Malaysian state of Malacca. As of 2010 it has a population of 503,885. It is the oldest Malaysian city on the Straits of Malacca. The economy of Malacca City is largely based on tourism. As the economic center of the state of Malacca, it also hosts several international conferences and trade fairs. The city is located along the Maritime Silk Road, proposed by China in 2013. The city is administered by the Malacca City Council.
Malacca City Council (officially: Historical Melaka City Council) (Malay: Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah) (MBMB) is a local authority which administers Malacca City and other areas of Central Malacca District. This agency is under Malacca State Government. MBMB is responsible for public health and sanitation, cleanliness management, town planning, environmental protection and building control, social and economic development and general maintenance functions of urban infrastructure. MBMB aims at making Malacca the world class cosmopolitan city. Its missions includes facilitating sustainability of the city, strengthening the corporate governance with integrity, and maintaining the culture and heritage.
