The online journal is a platform for international communication launched by CIDCA. It has launched four reports on Emergency Humanitarian Assistance, COVID-19 Assistance, China’s Foreign Aid Project Evaluation System, and Evaluation of the East Asia Poverty Reduction Cooperation Pilot Project. The two reports on “Small and Beautiful” Projects and Green Development Assistance are the fifth and sixth of its kind.
Hu Zhangliang, vice-chairman of the CIDCA, said that this year marks the 75th anniversary of China’s foreign aid initiatives. Over the past 75 years, China has helped recipients to carry out thousands of complete projects and material projects, more than 10 thousands of technical cooperation projects and human resources development and cooperation projects, and provided training for more than 400 thousands people in various fields. China plays an important role in promoting independence and prosperity of developing countries, safeguarding world peace and stability and enhancing international fairness and justice, and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
The report on “Small and Beautiful” Projects showcases vivid examples such as the relocation series projects along the China-Laos Railway that improve regional development, the “200-borehole-wells” project in Rwanda that provides safe drinking water to local villagers, and the Chinese Garden project in Jamaica that enriches local cultural life.
The report points out that “small and beautiful” projects span multiple sectors, including livelihood infrastructure, reduction of poverty and agricultural development, public health, education, emergency humanitarian aid. These projects make contribution to improving production and living standards of these countries, promoting poverty reduction and agricultural modernization, improving medical services and enhancing the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases.
The report on Green Development Assistance points out that China has increased the scale of its green development assistance in more diversified ways. The assistance covers more fields including capability building, clean energy, environmental protection and pollution management, emergency humanitarian assistance, biodiversity protection, green and sustainable development of agriculture.
The report showed that from 2018 to 2023, China has carried out 184 assistant projects (human resources development projects are not included) in green development totalling 30 billion yuan, benefiting 75 countries.
