On October 10-14, the 7th United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) World Congress had its series of meetings convened in the hybrid form combining online and in-person participation. The Congress, with the offline main venue at Daejeon, the ROK and the theme of “Local and Regional Governments Breaking Through as One”, was participated by UCLG member cities and organizations worldwide. At the UCLG World Council Meeting on October 14, Fuzhou was successfully re-elected as the UCLG Executive Bureau and Council Member for Year 2022-2025. This has maintained Fuzhou’s voice in the UCLG and demonstrated the city’s international visibility and influence.
During the Congress, Fuzhou hosted the 8th 21st-Century Maritime Cooperation Committee Meeting, at which participants discussed and shared measures and experience in inheriting and innovating the “Maritime Silk Road Culture” and strengthened the cultural link among people along the Maritime Silk Road. As a member city of the UCLG and the United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG ASPAC), to engage in affairs of UCLG and UCLG ASPAC and expand its inter-local governmental multilateral diplomacy, Fuzhou participated online at the meeting of the Tourism Committee, the 2022 2nd UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau Meeting, the 2022 UCLG ASPAC Council Meeting, the UCLG Executive Bureau Meeting, the UCLG World Council Meeting, and the UCLG General Assembly, among other activities. At the UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau Meeting on October 10, one of the above mentioned events, an official from the Foreign Affairs Office of Fuzhou Municipal People's Government attended online on behalf of Fuzhou, briefed on the work of the 21st-Century Maritime Cooperation Committee, and invited meeting attendees to actively join in the Committee’s future events.
