China’s First Blue Paper on Marine Culture Released

On December 16, The Blue Paper on Marine Culture · The Report on the Development of China’s Marine Culture (2021) was released in Lianjiang county, Fuzhou. It is learned that this is China's first Blue Paper on marine culture, which comprehensively summarizes the development of China's marine culture and contributes wisdom support to building a “Maritime Fuzhou”.

It is noted that the Blue Paper covers a wide range of topics including Marine Conservation  Awareness Development, Marine Culture Industry, Marine Cultural Studies, Marine Archaeology and Ship Reconstruction, etc. Meanwhile, it provides a detailed analysis on the research of marine history, cruise industry and marine-related photography, and also includes a feature article recording the major events in marine culture in 2021, namely, the inscription of Wangchuan Ceremony on UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list jointly nominated by China and Malaysia, as well as the rebuilding of “Yangtze River” Gunboat. This blue paper, which completes the most fundamental recording and accumulation of materials for researches on marine culture in contemporary China, provides valuable resources to understand and sort the development history of China’s marine culture, and is an essential reference book for workers in related fields and marine culture enthusiasts.

The launching ceremony of the Blue Paper was hosted by the CPC Lianjiang County Committee, Lianjiang County People’s Government and Fujian Provincial Research Center on Marine Culture, at which a number of experts, scholars and representatives of enterprises related to marine economy gathered together and delivered wonderful themed reports such as "Fujian's Marine Resources and the Construction of "Maritime Fuzhou".

As a county-level marine economic powerhouse, Lianjiang has remained the second largest and the largest producer of aquatic products among all counties in China and Fujian Province respectively for more than 40 years, and is therefore known as "the hometown of abalone in China" and "the hometown of seaweed in China". In recent years, Lianjiang County has accelerated building itself into a gateway for "Maritime Fuzhou" and proactively promoted the high-quality development of marine economy. In 2020, Lianjiang’s gross ocean product(GOP) reached 38.8 billion yuan, accounting for about 65% of regional GDP.
