Fuzhou Attended 2021 UCLG World Council and Executive Bureau Meetings

On November 16 and 17, United Cities and Local Government (hereinafter referred to as UCLG) convened its 2021 Executive Bureau and World Council Meetings. The event, under the theme of “Smart Cities and Territories, Pillars of the Common Agenda”, focused on facilitating discussions among the members on implementing UCLG policy strategy. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this event was held in a hybrid form with main venue in Barcelona, Spain. Almost 300 representatives from all over the world attended the event, including the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Xi’an City (Co-President of UCLG), Beijing City, Fuzhou City, Hangzhou City, Zhengzhou City, Wuhan City, Changsha City, Chongqing City and other UCLG World Council members from Chinese mainland. 

As member of UCLG Executive Board and World Council, Fuzhou attended 2021 UCLG Executive Bureau and World Council Meetings respectively. Ms. Emilia Saiz, Secretary General of UCLG, chaired the meetings, and Dr. Mohamed Boudra, President of UCLG, addressed the audience. Fuzhou, together with other members, took note of UCLG work at the meeting, including reports on UCLG Executive Bureau Meeting in May of this year and the World Council Meeting in Guangzhou, the progress of 2021, the work plan for 2022, and the preparation for the UCLG World Congress. The meetings reviewed major activities organized by UCLG in 2021 and the results achieved, and approved recommendations from Finance Management Committee and Statutory Affairs Committee on related issues. Against the backdrop of COVID-19, the participants had in-depth exchanges and discussions on mutual assistance and cooperation in gender equality, local finance for development, ecological transformation and sustainability and other fields, so as to improve global governance and promote a green and resilient recovery around the world.
