On the evening of November 30th, World Association of the Major Metropolises (Metropolis) virtually held the 2020 Metropolis General Assembly and the election of new members of the 2021-2023 Board of Directors. Commissioned by the Mayor of Fuzhou, representatives from Foreign Affairs Office of the Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government attended the meeting. With the approval of the attendees at the General Assembly, 32 member cities, including Fuzhou, Berlin, Paris, Seoul and so on, were elected as new members of the 2021-2023 Board of Directors.
Established in 1985, Metropolis now consists of 141 member cities with population over 1 million, and has become an international organization with broad influence. Since joining Metropolis in 2012, Fuzhou has always been committed to keeping an open mind in cooperation and fulfilling its obligations, and has actively participated in various affairs and activities of the association. Fuzhou’s first election to the Board of Directors will enhance the voice of member cities of China’s mainland, especially Fuzhou, and strengthen the visibility and influence of Fuzhou and 21st-Century Maritime Cooperation Committee in the international community and members of Metropolis, as well as promote extensive exchange and in-depth understanding between Fuzhou and other member cities. It is of positive significance to continuously widen Fuzhou’s circle of friends, expand new space for multilateral cooperation and develop Fuzhou as a modern international city.
