Fuzhou Attended the Web-Share 17 of UCLG ASPAC on Local Cooperation with Chinese Cities —Lessons Learnt from COVID-19 and Recovery Strategies

On Sept. 25th, the Secretariat of United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) held a webinar, with the theme of "Local Cooperation with Chinese Cities: Lessons Learnt from COVID-19 and Recovery Strategies". On behalf of Fuzhou, Foreign Affairs Office of the Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government attended the event, together with over 80 representatives from the other 28 UCLG ASPAC members in China’s mainland as well as other Asian-Pacific member cities and local governments.

Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC chaired the virtual event. Mr. Song Jingwu, Co-President of UCLG ASPAC and Vice President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), gave opening and conclusion remarks. At the webinar, representatives from the municipal governments of Guiyang, Hangzhou, Wuhan and Wuxi described the successful practice of Chinese local governments in handling the epidemic, such as the application of the "health code" and so on. Representatives from the Second Hospital of Zhejiang University, the Beijing CDC and the Beijing Ditan Hospital explained on measures for epidemic control, including the designing and management of the cabin hospitals and the response to the outbreak in the Xinfadi Market. The representative from Zhejiang China Commodities City Group shared experience in market management and business resumption during epidemic. In the conclusion remarks, Mr. Song Jingwu, Vice President of CPAFFC owed China’s success in containing COVID-19 to the synergy of "Four Forces", namely the forces of leadership, implementation, unity and science. He also expressed the willingness to offer more help within China’s capacity for fighting the pandemic in the Asian-Pacific and even other regions of the world. Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC, gave thanks for the sharing of Chinese cities and expressed her hope that Chinese cities can play a greater role in supporting the international community’s combat against COVID-19.

This webinar, through the platform of UCLG ASPAC, publicized China’s experience and conduct in fighting COVID-19 and the concept of "jointly building a community of common health for all mankind".
