The tunnel, located in West Bandung Regency's Cikalong, West Java province, has a total length of 2,190 meters and a maximum depth of burial of about 95 meters. The No. 8 tunnel is the second longest tunnel in the whole HSR, with 2 inclined shafts along the tunnel. The construction has faced many difficulties and risks including complicated geological conditions and the under-passing of existing railways and road, among others.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Chinese companies which are in charge of the construction adopted comprehensive and effective pandemic prevention measures to ensure the smooth completion of tunnel No. 8.
The Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway connects Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, and Bandung, the fourth largest city, with a total length of about 142 kilometers and a design speed of 350 km per hour. After completion, it will cut the journey between Jakarta and Bandung from more than three hours to around 40 minutes, which will greatly facilitate local public transportation and promote local economic development.
