At 8 o'clock on June 17th, local time, a flight of the Philippines' Cebu Pacific, carrying China's Coxing New Crown vaccines purchased by the Chinese societies in the Philippines, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila. With the joint support of the governments of China and the Philippines, this batch of vaccines was purchased by the local Chinese community through a partnership network between the Philippine government and private institutions, and will rely on the local health system for orderly vaccination.
Tan Qingsheng, Chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, went to the airport to welcome the flight and attend the handover ceremony. On the Filipino side, Carlito Galvez, Jr., National Task Force Against Covid-19 Chief Implementer, Francisco Duque III, Secretary of Health, and Hong Haiping, President's Special Envoy on China Affairs, also attended the event, along with Filipino Chinese Anti-Epidemic Committee’s Chaiman Henry Lim Bon Liong, Vice Chairman Yang Huahong and Vice Chairman Hong Hexiang, and other leading overseas Chinese. The event has been covered by many Filipino and Chinese news agencies.
Tan Qingsheng said that since the outbreak of Covid-19, China and the Philippines have helped each other in times of difficulty and deepened their traditional friendship through cooperation in Covid-19 response. Despite its own huge domestic demand and tight supply, China has provided vaccination assistance to the Philippines through aid and commercial procurement. And China has become the largest and most stable source of vaccines for the Philippines, contributing to the latter’s domestic fight against the pandemic. China has demonstrated with concrete actions that a friend in need is a friend indeed.
China and the Philippines have just celebrated the 46th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties and the 20th China-Philippines Friendship Day. At a new starting point, China is ready to work with the Philippines to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, stick to the theme of friendly cooperation and jointly build a closer partnership in the new era.
Galvez and others thanked the Chinese government for its full support for the Philippines' fight against the epidemic. He said that as part of the Philippines' national vaccination plan, the vaccines provided by China to the Chinese societies in the Philippines will provide effective support for the Philippines' efforts to control the epidemic and restore its economy.
