On November 3rd, Aurora Gold Mines (AGM)/Zijin Mining Group held the presentation ceremony of garbage truck to the city of Georgetown online and offline. Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Guyana Guo Haiyan, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Nigel Dharamlall, Mayor of Georgetown Ubraj Narine, Deputy Director General of Foreign Affairs Office of Fujian Province Mr. Chen Guoquan, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Fuzhou Municipality Zhang Wei were in attendance.
Deputy Director General Chen Guoquan reviews the governmental interactions, economic and trade cooperation and the cultural exchanges between Fujian Province and Guyana, and the sister city relationship between Fuzhou and Georgetown. Taking the opportunity of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Guyana,
Fujian Province will advance the intergovernmental communication, deepen the economic and trade cooperation as well as people-to-people contacts, promoting the bilateral friendship to a new level, he expresses. Mayor Narine speaks highly of the timely donation of garbage truck from Zijin Mining Group, which will contribute to the clean-up practice of Georgetown. He is also grateful to Fujian Province and Fuzhou City for the strong support in the economic and social development of Georgetown, in the hope of bringing a harvest of tangible benefits.
Ambassador Guo Haiyan states that it is a common development goal of the government of China and the government of Guyana to create a healthy and clean living environment for the people. At the just-concluded 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), General secretary Xi Jinping emphasized to further advance the "Healthy China Initiative" and "Patriotic Health Campaign", to carry out coordinated pollution control and ecological conservation, so as to reduce pollution and promote sound, healthy lifestyles. She also states that the donation of Zijin Mining Group reflects the pursuit and commitment of Chinese enterprises in Guyana to promote common development and make vigorous contributions to local communities. It is believed that this garbage truck will soon be used in Georgetown’s clean-up practice, and contribute to improvement of the living environment for the local people, as well as the "National Beautification Project". She believes that more opportunities will come for exchange and cooperation during the process.
Minister Nigel Dharamlall is grateful for China’s generous assistance to Guyana during the past years. He speaks highly of Chinese enterprises, investment, and technology, which promotes the economic and social development of Guyana and expresses his will to boost cooperation with China to benefit the two countries and their people.
In May 2006, Fuzhou and Georgetown established sister city relationship. During the past years, both governments have positively sent delegations to deepen beneficial interactions in economy, trade, culture, education, health, and other fields.
